Man found with 16 knives charged following alleged robbery

A 29-year-old Hawker man has been charged with aggravated robbery and multiple knife offences after allegedly attempting to rob a bottle shop in Belconnen.

About 3pm yesterday afternoon (Monday 11 August 2025) the man entered a Belconnen bottle shop and then left with a stolen item.

Two loss prevention officers followed the man and asked for the stolen item to be returned. The man then allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened the two men, on two occasions.

Police were called and located the man a short time later, where he was placed under arrest.

A subsequent search of the man revealed he was in possession of 14 knives in a duffle bag, and two knives within his clothing.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 12 August 2025) charged with aggravated robbery, possess offensive weapon with intent and 15 counts of possess knife without reasonable excuse.
