
Four teens aged 14 and 15 have been charged overnight in relation to stolen motor vehicle incidents in Weetangera and Nicholls.
About 11.30pm last night (Sunday, 13 April 2025) police patrolling Weetangera observed a Hyundai Tuscon SUV that had previously been reported as stolen. The vehicle was travelling at high speed on Schumack Street and as it approached Springvale Drive, tyre deflation devices were deployed.
The SUV failed to take the next turn, colliding with a traffic island and sign. A teenage boy fled the vehicle, with police arresting him soon after near Belconnen Way.
The 14-year-old was charged with breach of bail and ride/drive in a motor vehicle without consent.
A 15-year-old located hiding in a front garden near the collision scene was charged with breaching bail
In a second incident at about 3am this morning (Monday, 14 April 2025), police received a call regarding people attempting to enter vehicles in Nicholls. Soon after, police located two youths who matched witness descriptions at the intersection of Temperly Street and Wendy Ey Place. One of the youths possessed a key to a nearby Hyundai Kona that had been reported stolen on Saturday (12 April 2025).
A 14-year-old girl was subsequently charged with breach of bail and ride/drive motor vehicle without consent.
A 14-year-old boy was charged with theft, going equipped for theft, possession of stolen property and ride/drive motor vehicle without consent.
Three of the four teens arrested overnight were on bail for previous similar offences.
