Man to face court after making threats to kill and assaulting police
A 50-year-old Cook man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning after allegedly making threats to kill a woman known to him, and assaulting police last night.
About 6.30pm (Monday, 16 September 2024), the woman received multiple calls from the 50-year-old on a social media application.
During further communications, the man allegedly began making numerous threats to kill her.
The woman attended Tuggeranong Police Station a short time later to report the incident.
About 10.45pm last night, police attended the man’s residence in Cook.
As they attempted to converse with him, the man grabbed hold of the door and attempted to retreat and barricade himself inside the residence.
Police were able to gain entry shortly after, and upon attempting to arrest the man, he allegedly punched an officer in the chest, and kicked out at several others in an attempt to escape.
The man was subsequently arrested and has been charged with using a carriage service to threaten to kill, assaulting a frontline community service provider, and resisting police.
