A 47-year-old woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after allegedly assaulting police and a child during a family violence incident last night.

About 7pm (Sunday, 6 October 2024), the woman got into a verbal argument with her child at a home in Belconnen after drinking alcohol.

The woman attempted to leave the residence by getting in a car but was stopped by the child who was concerned about her intoxicated state.

Neighbours who witnessed the incident also attempted to intervene and during the altercation, the woman allegedly assaulted the boy, biting, hitting and scratching him.

Police arrived a short time later and spoke to the woman and her son. Due to her increasingly violent behaviour, officers attempted to place her under arrest but she resisted, throwing a punch and kicking at one officer.

Officers eventually arrested the woman and she was charged with assaulting a frontline community service provider, attempting to resist a public official, and aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
