Man to face court following incident at licenced premises in Gungahlin

A 32-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court following an incident at a licenced premises in Gungahlin last month.

About 3.10am on Monday, 16 September 2024, police responded to a call for assistance following reports that three men were behaving aggressively towards each other and staff, and throwing glasses within the licenced premises.

Upon arrival, police were further advised that the 32-year-old had been verbally abusive towards a staff member when the group were asked to leave.

When police engaged with the group and requested they leave the premises, the man was allegedly verbally abusive and threatening towards officers.

After negotiating with the group, the men left the premises, however re-entered a short time later.

Police once again directed that they leave, at which time the man allegedly attempted to further intimidate police, before the group departed the area a short time later.

The man has been issued with two Court Attendance Notices for intimidating police, and failing to quit a licenced premises. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, 31 October 2024.

A 30-year-old man will be served with a Criminal Infringement Notice for failing to quit in relation to his alleged involvement in the incident, and the third man’s involvement is not under investigation.
