A 40-year-old man will face court after allegedly supplying drugs to a 23-year-old woman who later died from a suspected drug overdose.

About midnight on 6 June 2024, a friend took the 23-year-old to hospital after she began suffering adverse effects from a heroin injection.

The woman was treated by hospital staff but was declared deceased a short time later.

Police began an investigation into the supplier of the drugs.

About 6.40pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, 6 November 2024), police stopped the 40-year-old man near his home in Reid and searched him, locating more than 30g of suspected heroin and methamphetamine hidden in his underwear.

A search warrant was executed on his residence and police seized a spring-loaded extendable baton and other drug paraphernalia.

The man was arrested and charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug other than cannabis and possessing a prohibited weapon.

He is due to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 7 November 2024).
