Man charged after shotgun and drugs found in his possession

A 33-year-old man has been charged after police found a loaded shotgun and drugs in his possession.

About 2.20am this morning (Thursday, 7 November 2024), police received a report of an unconscious male lying on the road on Florey Drive, Macgregor.

Police attended and after determining the man was not injured from a collision, woke him up.

Officers located a motorcycle nearby and confirmed it had been reported stolen. The man was searched officers found a loaded, sawn-off shotgun, a machete, two vials of a liquid suspected to be GHB and a small quantity of a white crystalline substance, believed to be methylamphetamine.

Police believed the man to be under the influence of illicit drugs and he was transported to hospital for treatment.

Following his release from hospital, he was charged with offences including possessing a prohibited firearm, trafficking in a controlled drug other than cannabis, unlawful possession of stolen property, and possessing a knife without a reasonable excuse.
