UPDATE Witnesses sought to attempted abduction ARRESTED

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incidents near Athllon Drive in Mawson on Saturday.

ACT Policing has released an image of a man they wish to speak to in relation to an attempted abduction in Mawson yesterday.

Following the release of information to the public earlier today, another woman has come forward to inform police of a similar incident.

Police believe both incidents involve the same offender.

About 2.45pm on 22 June 2024, a woman was walking her dog northbound on the path adjacent to Athllon Drive, Mawson when a man attempted to grab her before walking away.

Following the interaction, the man continued walking southbound, however turned and began to follow the woman a short time later.

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged contact Crime Stoppers.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and information in relation to an attempted abduction in Mawson.

About 3.10pm yesterday (Saturday, 22 June 2024), a woman was running southbound on the greenbelt adjacent to Athllon Drive, Mawson.

As she ran past a man walking in the opposite direction, the man has grabbed her and attempted to pick her up and carry her away.

Following a short scuffle, the man dropped the woman and fled the scene on foot.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or any residents from the surrounding area who may have CCTV footage of the incident who have not yet spoken to police.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 170cm (5’7”) tall, with dark hair. He was wearing a black puffer jacket, black shoes, and a black beanie at the time of the incident.
