ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and information relating to early morning ram-raids in Yarralumla and Wright and a vehicle arson incident in Chapman yesterday.
Between about 4:00am and 5:30am yesterday, (Thursday, 12 December 2024) a stolen black Mercedes SUV was involved in ram raids at the Bentham St Bar in Yarralumla and the TSG tobacconist in Wright. Soon after, the stolen Mercedes was set on fire in an underpass located on Darwinia Terrace, between Chapman and Rivett.
The underpass fire caused significant structural damage which will require extensive repair and restoration work. Darwinia Terrace between Angophora Street and Rafferty Street will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
Police are seeking information in relation to the two ram raids and car arson.
