A 17-year-old boy will face the ACT Children’s Court this morning charged with multiple offences after allegedly committing a burglary at a residence in Forde yesterday.
About 7.00am on Tuesday (17 December 2024) the resident woke up and found the sliding rear door and side gate to their home to be open.
Upon checking the premises, the resident discovered their Mazda CX-3, a wallet, a handbag, and keys had been stolen.
Police attended the residence a short time later and viewed CCTV footage, in which police recognised the 17-year-old boy in the footage.
About 1.30pm yesterday afternoon, police were conducting enquiries in Bonner in relation to the matter when they located the stolen Mazda. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
A short time later, police attended the 17-year-old's residence and conducted a search warrant where the allegedly stolen property was recovered, as well as clothing the boy was observed to be wearing during the burglary.
The boy, who was subject to a good behaviour order and had bail conditions not to be in possession of car keys was arrested and has been charged with burglary, taking a motor vehicle without consent, and unlawfully possessing stolen property.
The boy is scheduled to appear in the ACT Children’s Court today where bail will be opposed.
