A 39-year-old man from Ngunnawal has had his licence suspended immediately after returning a breath analysis result more than six times over the legal alcohol limit last night.

About 8.30pm (Saturday, 21 December 2024), police responded to reports of a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Mirrabei Drive and Bernard Heinze Avenue, Moncrieff.

Upon arrival, the driver of a black Holden Commodore – one of the vehicles involved in the collision – attempted to walk away from the area when police approached him.

Shortly after, he was subjected to a roadside alcohol screening test which returned a positive result. He was subsequently taken to Gungahlin Police Station to undergo a Breath Analysis Test where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) reading of 0.306 - more than six times the legal limit.

The 39-year-old was issued an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his ACT drivers licence for 90 days, and was served a Court Attendance Notice to appear in the ACT Magistrate’s Court on a charge of drink driving.

Drivers are reminded that roadside alcohol or drug screening can happen anywhere and at any time, and that impaired drivers continue to be in the sights of ACT Policing throughout December.
