A 23-year-old man has been charged with property damage and other offences after entering the Tuggeranong Police Station armed with a sledgehammer.

About 1.20pm yesterday (Friday, 13 December 2024), the man walked into the Tuggeranong Police Station with a sledgehammer and began using the handle to strike the barrier on the front desk.

The man then allegedly used the hammer to knock items to the floor while other members of the public were in the station.

Officers entered the foyer and used their tasers to subdue the man before he was arrested.

He has been charged with damaging Commonwealth property, possessing an offensive weapon, and affray. He is expected to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 14 December 2024).
