National Road Safety Week is an important annual event that reminds us of the devastating impact that road trauma has on individuals, families, and communities.
Canberrans continue to be killed on ACT roads. In 2024, eleven lives were lost on our roads and three people have died to date in 2025. Continued awareness of the impact of road trauma is needed to make ACT roads safer for all users.
ACTP is committed to ongoing enforcement, education and awareness to keep our local roads safe. National Road Safety Week provides an important opportunity to remind Canberrans that road safety is everyone’s responsibility as we work toward Vision Zero – no deaths or serious injuries on our roads.
During the week we are all being urged to recommit to safe drive by taking the pledge to drive so others survive. This means obeying the speed limit, wearing a seatbelt, not driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving to the conditions, and leaving the phone alone.
Keep an eye out for landmarks across Canberra including Malcolm Fraser Bridge, the City Fountain and light rail stops, lit up in yellow as a mark of respect during the week. You might also spot yellow ribbon pledge stickers on our police cars, and Transport Canberra buses and light rail support vehicles.
