National Firearms Amnesty
ACT Policing is taking part in a permanent National Firearms Amnesty to remove unwanted, unregistered, or illicit, firearms from the community.
People who have an unregistered firearm or firearm-related item can surrender it to police without penalty, for registration, sale or destruction.
Visit the Crime Stoppers website for more information about the National Firearms Amnesty.
Where can I surrender a firearm?
The ACT Firearms Registry
The Firearms Registry is located at 86 Vicars Street Mitchell.
The Firearms Registry is open by appointment only.
For any urgent matters, please contact the Firearms Registry on 02 51269076 or ACTFirearmsRegistry@afp.gov.au.
For anyone unable to bring a firearm in to police themselves, please contact the ACT Firearms Registry to organise collection.
Local police station
You can hand a firearm into your local police station.
Before you attend a station please call the ACT Firearms Registry or Police Assistance on 131 444 to advise you will be attending and surrendering a firearm.
Keep the firearm in its case or wrap it in a blanket, and transport securely in the boot of the vehicle. If transporting ammunition, it must be kept in a locked container separate from the firearms.
If you live in an Australian External Territory including Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Norfolk Island or in Jervis Bay, please contact your local police station for more information about how to surrender your items.
