Safe Summer 2025/26

Two police officers, a male and a female, stand in front of the Canberra CBD with the words "We'll see you in the city".

Since 2012, the Safe Summer campaign has supported ACT Policing operations by promoting safe attitudes and behaviours during the summer months, particularly around alcohol, partying, and personal safety. Alcohol-related crime remains a priority for ACT Policing due to its significant financial, social, and health impacts on the community.

This year, ACT Policing’s Territory Targeting Team is focusing on proactive, high-visibility policing to address community safety concerns in Canberra’s CBD. The theme “We’ll see you in the city” targets young adults aged 18–35 who consume alcohol and may engage in risky behaviours within licensed venues.

ACT Policing will be highly visible across Canberra during summer events, including New Year’s Eve and Summernats. Our officers will be on foot patrol around and inside venues, monitoring via CCTV and conducting Random Breath and Drug Testing on the roads

We’re committed to keeping the community safe and enforcing the laws that protect you.

Alcohol and drugs

Alcohol and illicit drugs are the leading cause of violence and anti-social behaviour on a night out. If you are involved in an incident, you may receive a Criminal Infringement Notice, or be arrested, charged, and put before the court. For tips on how to stay safe  on a night out visit our Alcohol and Drugs page.

Impaired Driving

If you plan to drink, don’t drive. ACT Policing will continue to conduct random breath and drug testing throughout summer. Drivers can expect to be tested anywhere, any time.

Breaking the law can result in fines or other penalties. Learn what happens if you receive a Criminal Infringement Notice.

Throughout the Safe Summer campaign, ACT Policing is collaborating with stakeholders such as CBR NightCrew, Transport Canberra, venue managers and security personnel to reinforce the message that we are working together to keep Canberra safe.
