ACT Policing is a strong supporter of the Disability Justice Strategy which is a ten-year plan that aims to ensure people with disability in the ACT have equal access to justice.
The Disability Justice Strategy forms part of the ACT Government’s vision for an inclusive society that gives everyone the chance to participate in community life and leaves no-one behind.
ACT Policing has Disability Justice Liaison Officers who play an important role in this space.
What we do:
- Build and maintain strong relationships between the vulnerable community and Police
- Identify an individual’s needs, make referrals to relevant support services/agencies, and identify reasonable adjustments.
- Provide education to the vulnerable community and raise awareness of preventative measures to reduce the likelihood of crime.
- Support members in their interactions with people with disability.
- Engage with individuals who have a disability and who are continually coming to police attention.
- Represent ACT Policing at community events.
