ACT Policing’s Communications Team aim to answer every call as quickly as possible and ensure all callers are given the opportunity to speak with police.
Unfortunately, there are times when ACT Policing Communications receives a high volume of calls and requests for assistance.
Emergency Triple Zero calls are always taken first followed by calls to 131 444.
ACT Policing Communications is constantly prioritising calls, even when existing calls are on hold.
Which calls are given the highest priority?
ACT Policing uses a 3-level system to categorise calls.
- Priority One incidents are defined as life threatening or time critical situations.
- Priority Two incidents are defined as situations where the information provided indicates that time is important, but not critical; and
- Priority Three incidents are defined as incidents where there is no immediate danger to safety or property
ACT Policing makes every effort to ensure all calls are answered in a timely manner however, life threatening emergencies will always remain a priority.

Emergency+ mobile app
If you need help but are not sure who to call, the Emergency+ smartphone application (app) can show you what number to call in an 'emergency' or 'non-emergency' situation.
The app includes numbers for a range of important services.
It uses the GPS functionality on your smartphone and displays the Latitude and Longitude coordinates of your location so you can provide it to the emergency call operator.
