Fingerprint Booking

To book a fingerprint appointment please read below, check the FAQ and use the calendar link.

This online booking system is for residents of the Australian Capital Territory to request a fingerprint booking appointment.

ACT Policing offers ink-fingerprinting services for the following:

  • Immigration checks
  • Overseas passports
  • Gaming licences
  • Casino Canberra
  • Employment checks

For the purpose of obtaining any security licence in the ACT, please go to the Access Canberra website and complete the following application form: Access Canberra - Application for Fingerprint or contact 13 22 81.

Please do not attend your appointment if you are unwell or have an injury/wound to either hand. Injuries/wounds will not provide valid prints.

Appointments can be offered (depending on availability) at City Police Station, Woden Police Station or Winchester Police Centre. The booking calendar will identify all available locations on any given date.

Parking is available close to all locations.

Fees and Charges

The cost of taking a single set of fingerprints is $26.00 AUD per individual applicant.

Payment for fingerprinting services is made at the time of your appointment. ACT Policing accepts payment via credit/debit card. Cash will NOT be accepted.

What to bring to your appointment

You must produce a photographic identification such as a valid driver’s licence or passport.

If you have a fingerprint form supplied from another country, please bring it to your appointment.

Minimum age for fingerprinting

The minimum age for fingerprinting without the need for a parent/legal guardian in the ACT is 18 years of age

If a person under the age of 18 requires their fingerprints to be taken, they will need to be in the company of a parent/legal guardian for the appointment and all parties must supply a photographic ID.

Cancellations

To cancel or reschedule an appointment that is already booked via the online booking system, please email the ACT Policing Fingerprint Hotline ACTP-Finger-Print-Hotline@afp.gov.au

You will receive a confirmation of cancellation.

Once you have emailed us to cancel your appointment, you may then make another fingerprint appointment by clicking on the link below.

Frequently Asked Questions

An ACT Policing member will take a full set of your fingerprints. Each appointment is for one set of fingerprints unless you have indicated multiple sets when you made the booking.

Each set of fingerprints will include individual fingerprint impressions that are rolled from nail to nail. This includes flat impressions of the fingers and thumbs of both hands. Palm impressions are also taken if required.

At the conclusion of your appointment, you will be handed the hardcopy (or sets) of your fingerprints to take with you.

Please contact your local police station for a fingerprint appointment.

If you make an appointment with ACT Policing for your fingerprints you must supply a reason why. Your booking will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and you will be contacted by our team if there are any issues.

ACT Policing are only able to assist with matters directly related to the ACT Policing fingerprinting process. If you are not located in the ACT or you are overseas, you should have your fingerprints taken locally and submit along with the NPC application form and any supporting documents to the address on the NPC form.

If you are obtaining fingerprints for an overseas authority or an Australian Government Department other than the AFP (e.g. Department of Home Affairs) and have questions unrelated to the fingerprinting itself – such as application procedures, documentation or eligibility – please contact the referring agency directly for guidance.

Please make another booking using the below link and ensure you select ‘Re-capture of prints’ as the reason for your appointment.

You must provide the following details:

  • original appointment date and location
  • which authority rejected your prints (eg FBI, your country’s Embassy name, AFP Forensics)
  • the reason the prints need to be re-captured.

The AFP handles this information in accordance with its privacy obligations and privacy police.

Processing of name and fingerprint National Police Check (NPC) may take 15 to 30 business days.
