What motivated you to apply to join ACT Policing?

I was motivated to join ACT Policing, as it was for me, an opportunity to have the best of both worlds. Having worked with Victoria Police,

I knew I loved Policing and that it was the job for me, but I longed to be closer to home and to give back to my community. Additionally, ACT Policing is unique to state Policing and there is so much you can do within the organisation that often goes unseen by the broader community. The opportunities to diversify your career are endless. Whilst it is just a piece of what the broader organisation can offer, it is a great place to work, as it is a relatively small jurisdiction, it certainly feels like a family.

What opportunities have you had since moving to ACT Policing?

I have been fortunate enough to have worked across two different portfolios within ACT Policing, undertaking various training courses and enhancing my investigative and leadership skills.

With ACT Policing being part of the AFP, where we are renowned for our investigative expertise, I have found even in General Duties, my investigative skills have developed significantly.

What was the move like from Victoria to Canberra?

It was definitely exciting to reconnect with people and settle back in and begin to enjoy the unique lifestyle Canberra offers all over again, with a new perspective and appreciation of the place. I love that it offers the benefits akin to a Country town, as well as having the amenities and lifestyle and opportunities of a major city. Since joining, a number of people that have joined from interstate have commented that they are pleasantly surprised by all the Canberra has to offer.

What is one of the best things about working in ACT Policing?

After working in metropolitan and regional police stations in Victoria, ACT Policing has given me a good balance of working in a small jurisdiction without giving up the benefits of city living. It was the lifestyle in Canberra and the unique opportunities in ACT Policing that convinced me to make the move back home.

What has been one of your biggest career highlights with ACT Policing?

There are so many that come to mind! Whilst I have had some impressive training opportunities, working at major events are always memorable and generally great fun. I was fortunate enough to spend a short time in Norfolk Island, an External Territory which is policed by ACT Policing members. An experience that was second to none, and I place I never imagined I would travel to!
