A key element when planning a summer night out is knowing how you are getting home.

If you intend to drink alcohol; don’t drive. There are a range of alternative transport options you can use.

In the lead up to a public event, be aware of road closures and expected traffic delays. To get all of the latest traffic information in real-time, follow the ACT Policing twitter account ACTPol_Traffic.

There are several Taxi services in the ACT to assist you getting to and from events safely. Phone ahead to book or know where your nearest Taxi rank is located.

The ride sharing services UBER is also available in Canberra.

Designated drivers and car pooling

Assign a designated driver, car pool with friends or get a lift from a relative when heading out for an event or night on the town.

Action Buses

Action buses run regular services throughout the holiday period.

Visit the Transport Canberra website for more information and for bus timetables.

Extra police will be on the roads this summer. Don’t risk a fine or worse.

Police will be targeting:

Double Demerits

Double Demerits will be in place from Friday 22 December 2017 until Monday 1 January 201 inclusive.

If you're heading out of Canberra this holiday season, plan your trip in advance. Make sure you're well rested, your car is in good condition, you have plenty of time to get to your destination, and you take regular breaks along the way.

Police will be targeting dangerous drivers. So ensure you drive to conditions, don't rush, be patient in traffic and take regular breaks.
